STARS Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis watches England beat USA with Lionesses captain Leah Williamson as injured Arsenal star gets a taste of Hollywood

England captain Leah Williamson may have been gutted to miss her side’s 2-1 win over the USA, but she had the next best thing watching along with Ted Lasso.

Arsenal’s Williamson was seen alongside Jason Sudeikis during the friendly clash at Wembley, clearly enjoying a competitive display from both sides.

Williamson, who captained England to Euro 2022 glory earlier this year, missed a huge tie between her Lionesses and the world no.1 and reigning World Cup champions.

Pictured with crutches from an injury picked up in training, the 25-year-old midfielder-turned-defender didn’t look too unhappy as she still had a night to remember.

Williamson was able to take in the game with Hollywood superstar Sudeikis who recently won a string of Emmy Awards for his work in Apple TV series Ted Lasso.

Sudeikis, who is also known for the likes of Horrible Bosses and We’re the Millers, portrays an American football coach in the sitcom who comes to manage in England, facing the barriers between the two sporting cultures.

But he’s now well-educated in soccer, and was seen with a Megan Rapinoe no.15 jersey as he represented the Ballon d’Or winner.

The show which focuses on fictional team AFC Richmond has even made it into FIFA23, and has become part of the football parlance.

Manchester United interim coach was forced to comment on a story that his American assistant Chris Armas had been dubbed ‘Ted Lasso’ during last season, and he wasn’t the only one who had to deal with the unhelpful stereotype.

Leeds’ Wisconsin-born coach Jesse Marsch has also commented on the show causing problems with his reputation in the UK, but that hasn’t stopped it becoming a fan favourite both at home and across the pond.
