Senesi deal reportedly edging closer for Cherries

CHERRIES have reportedly now agreed a deal for Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi.

The Argentinian centre-back has been heavily linked with a move to the Dorset club over the past week.

Sky Sports and Dutch outlet Voetbal International claim the 25-year-old centre-back is set to sign for the club.

It is understood Senesi touched down in Bournemouth this morning ahead of completing the move.

Senesi made his debut for the Argentina national team earlier this summer, featuring in a 5-0 friendly win over Estonia, in which superstar Lionel Messi scored all five goals.

He came through the youth ranks at Argentinean outfit San Lorenzo, progressing into their first team, before switching to the Eredivisie in 2019.

Since, he has made 116 appearances for Feyenoord, including playing in every round of the club’s run to the Europa Conference League final last season.

Senesi played the full 90 minutes in all seven knockout ties, with the final ultimately ending in disappointment, losing 1-0 to Roma in Albania.

Cherries have brought in full-back Ryan Fredericks and midfielders Marcus Tavernier and Joe Rothwell this summer, as well as goalkeeper Neto from Barcelona.

But asked where he would still like to strengthen after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa, boss Scott Parker replied: “We’re light in defence.

“Of course, Jefferson Lerma is having to play in the back line. There’s certain areas where it’s certainly clear – there’s a midfielder playing in the back line.

“He did incredible but ideally, Jeff, you would want in the middle of the park. That’s his natural position.

“I think in and around there is an area which we are going to try to improve. Hopefully we can do that.”
