Lions full-back Stuart Hogg accused of biting South Africa’s Willie le Roux as footage goes viral

Footage has emerged of the Lions full-back making contact with the arm of Springboks rival Willie le Roux

Stuart Hogg is facing accusations of foul play after video footage emerged of him allegedly biting opposite number Willie le Roux during the Lions’ 27-9 defeat to South Africa.

The highly-charged second Test in Cape Town was full of controversy and crucial calls, with the tourists having led 9-6 at half time before a Springbok supercharge in the second half.

Soon after the game, video footage came to light on social media showing Scotland full-back and captain Hogg coming into close contact with le Roux by pressing his face against his arm.

The footage is not conclusive, but Hogg has been accused of biting the Springbok and le Roux appears to try and get officials’ attention in the aftermath.

Hogg has since issued a statement saying he is annoyed and upset by the allegation.

While it is not known if South Africa have made an official complaint, Hogg could be one of several players nervously awaiting news – or a lack of it – from the citing commissioner.

He is likely to look at Cheslin Kolbe’s actions when Conor Murray was taken out in the air, Faf de Klerk’s tackle on Conor Murray, Damian de Allende’s lashing out at Maro Itoje – and also has the Hogg first-half incident with le Roux to potentially study.
