Lee Tomlin red card branded ‘most stupid ever’ as viewers left stunned by former Cardiff City star

The ex-Cardiff City man’s debut for new club Doncaster could not have gone much worse

Former Cardiff City player Lee Tomlin endured a shocking debut for Doncaster Rovers after he was sent off for two embarrassing yellow cards in the space just 17 seconds.

It was a series of events that left supporters baffled and his own manager branding him “stupid”.

Tomlin was initially booked by referee Bobby Madden after five minutes of stoppage time in the first half for refusing to get out of the way of a Bradford City free-kick. Then, he did the same again, cheekily kicking the ball away as Bradford attempted to take the set-piece.

There followed a comical moment as Tomlin proceeded to theatrically throw himself to the ground when confronted by an opponent. He was swiftly issued with another yellow card as he lay on the turf, throwing his arms in the air as his own team-mates put their heads in their hands and cringed.

With former Soccer AM presenter Max Rushden sharing the clip on Twitter, one fan wrote in response: “The most stupid red card you’ll ever see, courtesy of Lee Tomlin.”

Tomlin, 33, was making his debut after leaving Walsall at the end of last season. He left the Bluebirds by mutual consent in October last year.
