BLOW Premier League injury list: International break sees Ronaldo bloodied and Maguire hobbling while Arsenal duo are doubts, Stones pulls up and Patterson stretchered off

The Premier League returns this weekend after the international break but there could be many players missing.

After almost a fortnight away, players will be heading back to their clubs this week with varying fitness levels.

With knocks in training, injuries picked up in matches and illnesses, plenty of important squad members could be absent.

Here is the Premier League’s injury list from over the international break…

Thomas Partey

Arsenal could be without key midfielder Partey for the North London derby on Saturday after he pulled out of the starting line-up for Ghana last week.

Partey withdrew from the squad only minutes before facing Brazil after feeling some discomfort in his knee during the warm-up.

The Ghanaian returned to London early and could be fit after being assessed ahead of the weekend.

Kieran Tierney

Left-back Tierney was substituted with a knock while playing for Scotland on Saturday.

Tierney took a hit to the head and was taken off as a ‘precaution’ so Gunners fans will be hopeful that he won’t have to miss a game.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

After only just returning from injury, Tomiyasu had to withdraw from the Japan squad and return to Arsenal early.

However, there has been no mention of any knocks, with a statement saying his departure was down to ‘club circumstances’.

Aston Villa

Lucas Digne

Digne has picked up a fractured ankle during training soon after arriving at France’s camp for the international break. He is expected to be out for ‘weeks’.

Boubacar Kamara

Summer signing Kamara picked up an injury in Aston Villa’s game against Southampton which forced him to withdraw from the France squad.

During the break, Kamara’s injury was confirmed as damage to his knee ligaments and he is expected to miss up to two months of action.

Aaron Hickey

New signing Hickey hobbled off in Scotland’s match against the Republic of Ireland.

Thomas Frank will be worried but he did go on to play almost the full game against Ukraine on Tuesday.

Enock Mwepu

Mwepu has spent four days in hospital after falling ill in training. He has been allowed to return to England but is ruled out of the Seagull’s next game.

Christian Pulisic

After picking up a knock in training, Pulisic missed the USA’s game against Japan on Friday.

He was then evaluated on a daily basis and went on to appear in his country’s match against Saudi Arabia.

Nathan Patterson

Scotland right-back Patterson was stretchered off in their game against Ukraine and now will be sidelined for up to five weeks after picking up an ankle injury.

Aleksandar Mitrovic

There have been varied reports that Fulham striker Mitrovic was substituted with an injury after scoring a hat-trick inside an hour against Sweden.

The Serbian would be a huge loss for Marco Silva’s side if injured, however, there were encouraging signs after he took part in Serbia’s game against Norway on Tuesday.

Leicester City

Wilfred Ndidi

Ndidi has suffered a hamstring tear and has pulled out of the Nigeria squad, returning to Leicester early.

The injury has only been described as minor and he is likely to be fit for Monday’s game against Nottingham Forest.

Patson Daka

Similarly to Brighton’s Mwepu, Daka was also taken ill while on international duty with Zambia. He is currently recovering the team’s hotel.

Manchester City

John Stones

Stones pulled up with a suspected hamstring injury in England’s 3-3 draw with Germany. He was forced off after only 37 minutes.

Stones looked devastated when he was subbed and is set to be ruled out for up to two weeks.

Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo

Despite carrying on the play the full game, Ronaldo took a heavy hit to the face while playing for Portugal and it left him with a huge cut on his nose.

It’s likely that Ronaldo will be fit to return to action but after his face was left bloodied, there could be some doubts over his fitness.

Harry Maguire

After England’s game against Germany, Maguire was seen hobbling through the media area.

It wasn’t apparent in the game that he is set to be unavailable for the Manchester derby.

Alexander Isak

Summer signing Isak withdrew from Sweden’s training camp last week after sitting out of training with a knock.

After an assessment, it showed that Isak suffered a calf injury and will be out for three weeks.

Chris Wood

Striker Wood could only play half an hour for New Zealand on Sunday as he was substituted with a rib injury.

He said: “Something popped in my rib. It hurt to run and breathe.”

That will be worrying reading for Newcastle fans.

Nottingham Forest

Emmanuel Dennis

Dennis had to drop out of Nigeria’s squad for their friendly against Algeria through injury. The details of the injury are yet to be revealed.

Scott McKenna

Centre-back McKenna joined a long list of players injured for Scotland and will miss Nottingham Forest’s game against Leicester City on Monday.

Morgan Gibbs-White

Before the international break started, Gibbs-White was forced to pull out of the England U21 squad. He remained in Nottingham for treatment on his injury.

Che Adams

Adams missed training ahead of Scotland’s game against Ukraine. He was unwell the morning of the session but did start in Krakow, playing 79 minutes.

Hugo Lloris

Tottenham captain Lloris pulled out of the France squad after suffering from a thigh injury.

The issue isn’t considered serious but the goalkeeper will need to be checked on during the week.

Injury free

Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Leeds, Liverpool, West Ham and Wolves have all had an injury-free international break.
